Females Are Strong As Hell
Last week, like many other women (and men), I went to see the new Wonder Woman flick. I grew up watching the Lynda Carter series while spinning in my living room and wearing red, white, and blue Underoos. It never occurred to my five year old self that being strong could be considered uncharacteristic of women. Reruns of the late 70s TV series showed me that women can be powerful. Women can save the day.
Gal Gadot’s portrayal of the iconic warrior is inspiring a whole new generation of girls to see more than delicate feminine features in themselves. While Wonder Woman’s heart is filled with love, and her heart breaks when she sees how mankind is living during the first World War, she uses her strength to restore peace. Men are enjoying this movie just as much as women because it is a well-written action flick, but women who are finally seeing their likeness on the big screen as total bad-asses, are inspired like never before. Knowing that Gadot filmed a major fight scene while she was 5 months pregnant speaks to the secret inner strength that all women possess. Women are strong and Wonder Woman is empowering a whole new generation of young girls to grow up knowing that bravery, strength, and integrity are as much a part of their nature as nurturing, loving hearts.
Today on the blog, I wanted to share a strength playlist celebrating your inner Wonder Woman. Guys, there’s no reason you can’t swing a kettle bell to these tunes to celebrate the women you love and admire. Warm up with Nina Simone’s Feeling Good and know that every workout sends you on your way to “a new dawn, a new day.” Whether you are pumping iron or going the distance on the treadmill, use these songs to power through your workout along with the inspiration of the tenacious and principled Diana of Themyscira.
This movie came out just in time because we are doing a 5K Warrior Dash on August 5, 2017. So ladies, join us in unleashing your inner warrior!
